Fibromialgia en la infancia y la adolescencia: una revisión de la literatura

Resumen


La fibromialgia es una enfermedad reumática de etiología desconocida que afecta fundamentalmente a mujeres adultas. No obstante, no es infrecuente encontrar casos en población infantil y adolescente. El estudio de la fibromialgia juvenil tiene una corta historia, siendo escaso el interés que se ha prestado a este síndrome en menores.

Se ha realizado una búsqueda bibliográfica en las bases de datos electrónicas IME, Dialnet, Cuiden, Academic Search Premier y Medline, en el periodo 1997-2012.

Los resultados indican que todavía estamos en una fase inicial del conocimiento relativo a la fibromialgia juvenil. Se ha intentado relacionar su etiología con una historia de abuso físico o sexual, considerándose un síndrome psicosomático, donde los aspectos psicológicos y emocionales tienen un papel destacado.

Este síndrome, provoca un pobre funcionamiento social y alta tasa de absentismo escolar. Siendo necesario abordar su tratamiento desde una perspectiva multidisciplinar, con una combinación de terapia farmacológica y psicológica.
